Squidoo has been recommended for SEO, but it is also a good community of many people who enjoy making Squidoo lenses in and of themselves. So when if you're a website owner planning to make Squidoo part of your SEO strategy, be aware that other lensmasters will expect quality when they see your lens.
You cannot put trash on the web at a site like Squidoo and expect it to prosper. It is true the front page of Squidoo has high PR, but your page won't unless the other lensmasters like it and promote it by favoriting it, giving it a thumbs up, and featuring it on their lenses. Your SEO strategy could fail by failing to respect Squidoo and the community of lensmasters that use it.
For example, within Squidoo there's an angel program. The angels have the power to boost your site's lensrank, or decrease it. I have been part of that angel program, and can verify that if a site is built sloppily just for the purpose of backlinking to another site, or promoting an affiliate link, such as one from Clickbank, it is likely to be demoted by an angel. Angels are looking for quality lenses made by lensmasters who write and design a lens in a way that it shows they care about Squidoo.
If you don't care about Squidoo for anything other than a quick backlink, your lens will show it, and it will not rank high. These lenses have no life or love put into them and sink as quickly as they are made.
To succeed at Squidoo, keep your lenses updated. Fill them with genuine valuable content that people will enjoy reading. Use them as more than just a link dump! Yes, Squidoo for SEO is a reasonable idea... and can help your websites prosper. But it is also a lively, vibrant community of people who dearly love and care about Squidoo.
